USOR Connects Employers and Job Seekers with Disabilities at Job Fair

The Department of Workforce Services, Utah State Office of Rehabilitation (USOR)  hosted a job fair on October 3, 2017, to help people with disabilities find employment opportunities. Hundreds of participants and 35 local employers attended the bi-annual event.

The goal of the Work Ability Career Exploration and Job Fair was to connect employers who understand the value of hiring people with disabilities with those looking for employment.

People with disabilities typically have equal or higher performance rates and lower absentee rates than those who do not have a disability. However, they have a higher unemployment rate compared to those without disabilities. Utah is working to eliminate the unemployment gap between those with and without disabilities.

For employers, the state has several resources to help them find qualified job seekers, including the USOR Business Relations team. The team of specialists can answer employers’ questions about disability-related work issues, tax incentives and programs, and connect them with other services.

Specialists are also aware of different resources and programs available to address a variety of workplace needs. This includes resources in helping raise desks to fit wheelchairs or equipping a screen reader on a computer for a person who is blind. The next job fair will be April 10, 2018. Learn more about the job fair in this Deseret News article.
