Notable achievements for July 2017:
- Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DSDHH): On July 24, the Southern Utah program partnered with other community and governmental entities in St. George for the Osmond Pioneer Legacy concert. As part of the program, the Olive Osmond Foundation donated hearing aids to children unable to afford them.
- Disability Determination Services (DDS): One of the DDS training supervisors attended the National Association of Disability Examiners (NADE) conference. The highlighted speaker was the Acting Commissioner of Social Security, Nancy Berryhill. Information gained from the conference was brought back and shared with the rest of DDS staff.
- Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired (DSBVI): Several DSBVI staff members met with the Veterans Administration staff to discuss ways for the two agencies to collaborate and provide outreach. This gave DSBVI a chance to highlight services offered, providing the VA with a positive view of the agency.
- Rehabilitation Services (DRS): The Division of Rehabilitation Services continues to successfully expand its outreach and services to youth and students with disabilities. During July, more than 30 percent of individuals receiving vocational rehabilitation services were between the ages of 14 to 24. Services for this population are targeted to help students and youth transition from high school to training programs and careers.
