About Us
Mission
The Utah Governor's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities promotes public and private efforts to achieve equal employment opportunities for all qualified Utahns with disabilities.
Vision
The Utah Governor's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities will be Utah's primary resource regarding employment for people with disabilities.
Core Beliefs
We believe that:
Increased employment for people with disabilities will be successful when:
- Every individual has access to employment based on their skills, abilities, and informed choice.
- Every individual has the opportunity for training and education to prepare for the workforce.
- Every individual takes responsibility to attain and maintain employment.
- Employers take a proactive role to recruit, hire, and retain people with disabilities.
- Innovative approaches and partnerships are continually developed to increase employment opportunities.
Objectives
- Inform and advise the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation, State Board of Education, Governor's Office, Legislative Coalition for People with Disabilities and legislators on local, state and national issues that affect the employment of individuals with disabilities.
- Facilitate the development, implementation, and coordination of local Business Leadership Networks (BLNs).
- Establish and maintain an information and resources distribution strategy.
- Foster cooperative working relationships between state agencies, public and higher education, providers, and organizations to address workplace preparation for transition-age youth and other students with disabilities.
- Develop and implement a tracking system that will measure the effectiveness of the Governor's Committee regarding the employment of people with disabilities.
